Definition of a match
During a match, three sets of 25 points each are played, based on the rally point system. Playing rally point means, that each ball played leads to a won point in the score, in opposition to the system that was played in the Netherlands a few years ago, when points could only be scored when the team was on serve. The number of sets won by your team can be read at the website.
- Three sets of 25 points based on Rally point.
- A set can only be won with a 2 point distance. When over 24 points, the match continues until one of the teams has two points more than the other.
Important rules during the match
During the match, there are some extra rules when playing at Van Slag:
- At all times during the matches, at least two women or a maximum of four men can be present at the court.
- In opposition to the rules of NeVoBo (Dutch League), it is allowed to start off with an incomplete team; however, at least three players of the original team should be present.
Deputies
Deputies are allowed. However, there are some rules about joining into another team:
- Deputies from higher groups can only join the match with the explicit consent of the opponent. After each played set, the opponent still has the right to refuse the deputy.
- If the opponent did not agree to have the deputy, they have the right to judge the match 3-0 in their advantage within 7 days.
- Deputies that usually play in a lower group do not need agreement from the opponent to join the match.
Promoting and degrading
After each round of matches, the two teams with the highest number of sets won will upgrade to a higher pool. The two teams with the lowest number of won sets degrade to a lower group. Theoretically speaking, a team from pool E can end up in pool A after four rounds.
- Two teams with the highest number of won sets upgrade one group and the two teams with the lowest number of won sets degrade.
- If two or more teams have the same score, the result among the teams counts. The match between the two always provides a winner and a loser.
- The results among the teams can result in the situation where team A wins from B, B wins from C and team C wins from A. In that case, the mutual set balance will determine the winner. This way, 3-0 overrules a 2-1 won match.
- If this does not provide a decision, the mutual point balance of the teams involved is calculated.
- In the rare case that this does not provide a decisive answer, the Board of Van Slag will publicly draw lots to determine the decision.
Presence of referees
For each court, a referee should be present from the team responsible. When this is not the case, the team will be punished by 1 (set) point deduction per court where no referee is present (so a maximum of 3 points). The board reserves the right to deviate from this rule if she feels caused to do so.
