Registering with Van Slag

Short summary of registration

The season of Van Slag starts in August and September and then you can register with Van Slag. For a successful registration, you need two things.

  1. You need to register online with Van Slag. Our membership fee is € 32.00
  2. You need to buy a sports card with Olympos and report that you play with Van Slag. This costs € 25.00 for students and can be done at the sports desk of the Olympos sports centre on the Uithof.

Registering with Van Slag

Registering with Van Slag can be done directly on our website. Van Slag usually fills up rather quickly, so don't be late!

What do I need to register with Van Slag?

Only an appetite for a year of volleyball and fun. Nothing further. After registering with Van Slag you do need to buy a sports card (more info on the sports card).

What does it cost?

The membership fee of Van Slag is € 32.00. This gets you a whole year of volleyball on every Tuesday. We are the cheapest student sports club of Utrecht!

When is Van Slag filled?

Van Slag can accomodate approximately 330 members. The first 300 registrations are guaranteed a spot with Van Slag. If you register later, there is still a good chance that we can find space for you. You should note two things

Van Slag tries to create well-balanced teams.
Van Slag has teams competing at different levels, from beginners to advanced players. For example: if there still is a lot of space for advanced players, we will give a spot to an advanced player instead of giving it to a beginner. The other way around is of course also possible. In this way, we ensure that the teams and the club itself is balanced, and we can find a suitable team for everybody.
Van Slag consists for at least 80% of students.
Van Slag is a students club. No wonder that we would like the majority of our members to be students. Therefore Van Slag has a rule that 80% of its members must be a student in Utrecht. This allows members who for instance just graduated to keep playing volleyball with their friends, while we keep the student atmosphere of Van Slag.

What if Van Slag is filled

If all Van Slag teams are filled to capacity, Van Slag opens a waiting list for interested people. Registering for this waiting list has two big advantages:

During the year, a place becomes available with Van Slag.
For instance because somebody travels abroad for studying. Van Slag then looks to the waiting list for a good replacement. This could be you, if you have registered for the waiting list of course.
Guaranteed spot for next year.
Regardless whether we were able to find a spot for you during the year, you are automatically entitled to access the pre-registration for next year. In this way, you are guaranteed a spot with Van Slag for the next season.

Can I registration as an individual, or start a team with friends?

Registering as an individual
Most students register as an individual player. You are then assigned to a team on the basis of the playing level you indicated you have during the registration process. You could become a member of a team with other players that registered as an individual, or in a team that also played with Van Slag last year.

Registering with one or more friends
You can decide to become a member of the same team together with some friends. If you do not have sufficiently many people to form a complete team, we will add another group of friends or individual players to your team for you.

Registering as a complete team
If you have six people, at least two of which are girls, then you can register as a complete team. Every team member pays the membership fee of € 32.00. On the registration form, you can indicate whom your fellow team members are, possibly together with a team name.

Registering with multiple teams
Can't get enough of volleyball? At Van Slag you can register for a second team. You do however have to pay the membership fee of € 32.00 twice. Moreover, each team can have at most three players that play in two teams and has to have at least six players who play in only one team.

Registering with Olympos

All volleyball matches of Van Slag take place at the Olympos Sports Centre. To make use of the sports centre, you are obliged to buy a sports card. Moreover, you have to report to Olympos that you will be playing with Van Slag. You can do this at the sports desk of Olympos Sports Centre on the Uithof.

The sports card has three categories.

Category A ( € 25,- per year )

  • Students of Dutch universities
  • Students of the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht (HU) and Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU)

Category B ( € 55,- per year )

  • Graduates of Utrecht University, possessing an Alumni pass
  • Students of other universities of applied sciences
  • Employees of Utrecht University

Category C ( € 108,- per year )

  • everbody not in Category A or B (not a student)
